Backpacking Retreat - July 14-20

Join us for our first ever Canyon Creek Project Backpacking Retreat to the Chicago Basin near Durango, Colorado. Please read through all of the following information carefully and completely before signing up.

Schedule

Sunday 14--Drive to Durango, CO. Stay a night at hotel.
Monday 15--Take Train. Start hike. Set camp.
Tuesday 16-- First Fourteener (Possibly second one for those who can)
Wednesday 17--Second Fourteener (Possibly fourth one for those who can)
Thursday 18--Pick up camp/trash. Head down to train stop. Stay at hotel. 
Friday 19--Drive back home. 
Saturday 20--Sabbath Rest. 

Know Before You Go…

Hiking/Skill Level: Class 1 to Class 4 climbs (Class 4 climb is applied to only certain 14ers)
Class 1: Hiking on a trail. Class 2: Simple scrambling, with the possible occasional use of hands. Class 3: Scrambling; hands are used for balance and a rope might be carried. Class 4: Simple climbing, often with exposure. A rope is often used, and a fall could be fatal.
Facilities: This is a true backpacking trip - there are no showers or restroom facilities at the camping site. Participants must also pack in all food and have their own kitchen system to cook food like a small pot and knife.
Estimated Cost: Each person will be responsible for purchasing/acquiring their own gear (see detailed lists of required items at the very bottom of this page). Other costs will include gas, hotel rooms (2 nights), and train ticket to trailhead (train ticket is ~$130 per person)
Orientation: Orientation Days will be set up prior to the trip to ensure everyone has their questions answered and knows more details of exactly what to expect.
Age Requirements: Backpackers of all ages are welcome, but all minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Important info - train

You are responsible to book your own train ticket on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. You must book this ticket ASAP as only 40 people per day can take the train in. Please see the instructions below on how to book your ticket. Email kelly@canyoncreekproject.com with any questions.

Price: Open car is $130. Closed car is $120. Must also pay a $15 backpack fee
When to Book: Book now - the train only takes 40 backpackers per day so tickets will sell out quickly.
